Genesis 46

46Israel set out with all that he had and came to Beer-sheba, and he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.H3478H5265H935H884H2076H2077H430H1H33272That night God spoke to Israel in a vision: "Jacob, Jacob!" He said. And Jacob replied, "Here I am."H430H559H3478H4759H3915H559H3290H3290H5593God said, "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there.H559H410H430H1H3372H3381H4714H7760H1419H14714I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you back. Joseph will put his hands on your eyes."H3381H4714H5927H5927H3130H7896H3027H58695Jacob left Beer-sheba. The sons of Israel took their father Jacob in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to carry him, along with their children and their wives.H3290H6965H884H1121H3478H5375H3290H1H2945H802H5699H6547H7971H53756They also took their cattle and possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Then Jacob and all his children with him went to Egypt.H3947H4735H7399H7408H776H3667H935H4714H3290H22337His sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters, indeed all his offspring, he brought with him to Egypt.H1121H1121H1121H1323H1121H1323H2233H935H47148These are the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who went to Egypt: Jacob's firstborn: Reuben.H8034H1121H3478H935H4714H3290H1121H7205H3290H10609Reuben's sons: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.H1121H7205H2585H6396H2696H375610Simeon's sons: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman.H1121H8095H3223H3226H161H3199H6714H7586H1121H366911Levi's sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.H1121H3878H1648H6955H484712Judah's sons: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. They were born to him by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, a priest at On.H3130H776H4714H3205H4519H669H621H1323H6319H3548H204H320521Benjamin's sons: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.H1121H1144H1106H1071H788H1617H5283H278H7220H4649H2650H71422These were Rachel's sons who were born to Jacob: 14 persons.H1121H7354H3205H3290H5315H702H624023Dan's son: Hashum.H1121H1835H236624Naphtali's sons: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.H1121H5321H3183H1476H3337H800625These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. She bore to Jacob: seven persons.H1121H1090H3837H5414H7354H1323H3205H3290H5315H765126The total number of persons belonging to Jacob— his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob's sons— who came to Egypt: 66.H5315H935H3290H4714H3318H3409H3290H1121H802H5315H8346H833727And Joseph's sons who were born to him in Egypt: two persons. All those of Jacob's household who had come to Egypt: 70 persons.H1121H3130H3205H4714H8147H5315H5315H1004H3290H935H4714H765728Now Jacob had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to prepare for his arrival at Goshen. When they came to the land of Goshen,H7971H3063H6440H3130H3384H6440H1657H935H776H165729Joseph hitched [the horses to] his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel. Joseph presented himself to him, threw his arms around him, and wept for a long time.H3130H631H4818H5927H7125H3478H1H1657H7200H5307H6677H1058H6677H575030Then Israel said to Joseph, "At last I can die, now that I have seen your face [and know] you are still alive!"H3478H559H3130H6471H4191H310H7200H6440H5750H241631Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and inform Pharaoh, telling him: My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.H3130H559H251H1H1004H5927H5046H6547H559H251H1H1004H776H3667H93532The men are shepherds; indeed they raise livestock. They have brought their sheep and cattle and all that they have.H582H7462H6629H4735H935H6629H124133When Pharaoh addresses you and asks, 'What is your occupation?'H6547H7121H559H463934you are to say, 'Your servants, both we and our fathers, have raised livestock from our youth until now.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the land of Goshen, since all shepherds are abhorrent to Egyptians."H559H5650H582H4735H5271H1H3427H776H1657H7462H6629H8441H4714

Genesis 47

47So Joseph went and informed Pharaoh: "My father and my brothers, with their sheep and cattle and all that they have, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in the land of Goshen."H3130H935H5046H6547H559H1H251H6629H1241H935H776H3667H776H16572He took five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.H3947H7097H251H2568H582H3322H6440H65473Then Pharaoh asked his brothers, "What is your occupation?" And they said to Pharaoh, "Your servants, both we and our fathers, are shepherds."H6547H559H251H4639H559H6547H5650H7462H6629H14Then they said to Pharaoh, "We have come to live in the land for a while because there is no grazing land for your servants' sheep, since the famine in the land of Canaan has been severe. So now, please let your servants settle in the land of Goshen."H559H6547H1481H776H935H5650H4829H6629H7458H3515H776H3667H5650H3427H776H16575Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "[Now that] your father and brothers have come to you,H6547H559H3130H559H1H251H9356the land of Egypt is open before you; settle your father and brothers in the best part of the land. They can live in the land of Goshen. If you know of any capable men among them, put them in charge of my livestock."H776H4714H6440H4315H776H3427H1H251H3427H776H1657H3427H3045H3426H582H2428H7760H8269H47357Joseph then brought his father Jacob and presented him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.H3130H935H3290H1H5975H6440H6547H3290H1288H65478Then Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How many years have you lived?"H6547H559H3290H4100H2416H3117H81419Jacob said to Pharaoh, "My pilgrimage has lasted 130 years. My years have been few and hard, and they have not surpassed the years of my fathers during their pilgrimages."H3290H559H6547H3117H8141H4033H3967H7970H8141H4592H7451H3117H8141H2416H5381H3117H8141H2416H1H3117H403310So Jacob blessed Pharaoh and departed from Pharaoh's presence.H3290H1288H6547H3318H6440H654711Then Joseph settled his father and brothers in the land of Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.H3130H3427H1H251H5414H272H776H4714H4315H776H776H7486H6547H668012And Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all his father's household with food for their dependents.H3130H3557H1H251H1H1004H3899H6310H294513But there was no food in that entire region, for the famine was very severe. The land of Egypt and the land of Canaan were exhausted by the famine.H3899H776H7458H3966H3515H776H4714H776H3667H3856H6440H745814Joseph collected all the money to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan in exchange for the grain they were purchasing, and he brought the money to Pharaoh's house.H3130H3950H3701H4672H776H4714H776H3667H7668H7666H3130H935H3701H6547H100415When the money from the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us food. Why should we die here in front of you? The money is gone!"H3701H8552H776H4714H776H3667H4714H935H3130H559H3051H3899H4191H3701H65616But Joseph said, "Give me your livestock. Since the money is gone, I will give you food in exchange for your livestock."H3130H559H3051H4735H5414H4735H3701H65617So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for the horses, the herds of sheep, the herds of cattle, and the donkeys. That year he provided them with food in exchange for all their livestock.H935H4735H3130H3130H5414H3899H5483H6629H4735H1241H2543H5095H3899H4735H814118When that year was over, they came the next year and said to him, "We cannot hide from our lord that the money is gone and that all our livestock belongs to our lord. There is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land.H8141H8552H935H8145H8141H559H3582H113H3701H8552H113H413H4735H929H7604H6440H113H1472H12719Why should we perish here in front of you— both us and our land? Buy us and our land in exchange for food. Then we with our land will become Pharaoh's slaves. Give us seed so that we can live and not die, and so that the land won't become desolate."H4191H5869H127H7069H127H3899H127H5650H6547H5414H2233H2421H4191H127H345620In this way, Joseph acquired all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh, because every Egyptian sold his field since the famine was so severe for them. The land became Pharaoh's,H3130H7069H127H4714H6547H4714H4376H376H7704H7458H2388H776H654721and Joseph moved the people to the cities from one end of Egypt to the other.H5971H5674H5892H7097H1366H4714H709722The only land he didn't acquire was that of the priests, for it was their allotment from Pharaoh. They lived off the allotment Pharaoh had given them; therefore they did not sell their land.H127H3548H7069H3548H2706H6547H398H2706H6547H5414H4376H12723Then Joseph said to the people, "Understand today that I have acquired you and your land for Pharaoh. Here is seed for you. Sow it in the land.H3130H559H5971H7069H853H3117H127H6547H1887H2233H2232H12724At harvest, you are to give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the field and as food for yourselves, your households, and your dependents."H8393H5414H2549H6547H702H3027H2233H7704H400H1004H398H294525And they said, "You have saved our lives. We have found favor in our lord's eyes and will be Pharaoh's slaves."H559H2421H4672H2580H5869H113H6547H565026So Joseph made it a law, still in effect today in the land of Egypt, that a fifth [of the produce] belongs to Pharaoh. Only the priests' land does not belong to Pharaoh.H3130H7760H2706H127H4714H3117H6547H2569H7535H127H3548H654727Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the region of Goshen. They acquired property in it and became fruitful and very numerous.H3478H3427H776H4714H776H1657H270H6509H7235H396628Now Jacob lived in the land of Egypt 17 years, and his life span was 147 years.H3290H2421H776H4714H6240H7651H8141H2416H3117H3290H3967H705H8141H7651H814129When the time drew near for him to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, "If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh [and promise me] that you will deal with me in faithful love. Do not bury me in Egypt.H3117H7126H3478H4191H7121H1121H3130H559H4672H2580H5869H7760H3027H3409H6213H2617H571H6912H471430When I lie down with my fathers, carry me away from Egypt and bury me in their burial place." Joseph answered, "I will do what you have asked."H7901H1H5375H4714H6912H6900H559H6213H169731And Jacob said, "Swear to me." So Joseph swore to him. Then Israel bowed [in thanks] at the head of his bed.H559H7650H7650H3478H7812H4296H7218

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
