Hebrews 1

Jesus Christ Is God’s Son

1Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.G2316G4181G2532G4187G2980G3819G3962G1722G43962And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.G2980G1909G5130G2078G2250G2980G2254G1722G5207G3739G5087G2818G3956G1223G3739G2532G4160G1653The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.G3739G5607G541G1391G2532G5481G846G5287G5037G5342G3956G4487G846G1411G4160G2512G1223G1438G4160G2512G2257G266G2523G1722G1188G3172G1722G53084This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.G1096G5118G2909G32G3745G2816G1313G3686G3844G846

The Son Is Greater Than the Angels

5For God never said to any angel what he said to Jesus: "You are my Son. Today I have become your Fatherc." God also said, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son."G1063G5101G32G2036G4218G4771G1488G3450G5207G4594G1080G1473G1080G4571G2532G3825G1473G2071G1519G846G3962G2532G846G2071G1519G3427G52076And when he brought his supreme Son into the world, God saidc, "Let all of God's angels worship him."G1161G3825G3752G1521G4416G1519G3625G3004G2532G4352G3956G32G2316G4352G8467Regarding the angels, he says, "He sends his angels like the winds, his servants like flames of fire."cG2532G4314G3303G32G3004G4160G846G32G4151G2532G846G3011G5395G44428But to the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. You rule with a scepter of justice.G1161G4314G5207G4675G2362G2316G1519G165G165G4464G2118G4464G4675G9329You love justice and hate evil. Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else."cG25G1343G2532G3404G458G1223G5124G2316G4675G2316G5548G4571G1637G20G3844G4675G335310He also says to the Son, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands.G2532G4771G2962G2596G746G2311G1093G2532G3772G1526G2041G4675G549511They will perish, but you remain forever. They will wear out like old clothing.G846G622G1161G4771G1265G2532G3956G3822G5613G244012You will fold them up like a cloak and discard them like old clothing. But you are always the same; you will live forever."cG2532G5616G4018G1667G846G1667G2532G236G1161G4771G1488G846G2532G4675G2094G1587G3756G158713And God never said to any of the angels, "Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet."cG1161G4314G5101G32G2046G4218G2521G1537G3450G1188G302G2193G5087G4675G2190G4675G5286G422814Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.G1526G3780G3956G3010G4151G649G1519G1248G1223G3195G2816G4991

Hebrews 2

A Warning against Drifting Away

2So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.G1223G5124G2248G1163G4056G4337G191G3379G39012For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished.G1063G1487G3056G2980G1223G32G1096G949G2532G3956G3847G2532G3876G2983G1738G34053So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?G4459G2249G1628G272G5082G4991G3748G746G2983G2980G1223G2962G950G1519G2248G5259G1914And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.G2316G4901G5037G4592G2532G5059G2532G4164G1411G2532G3311G40G4151G2596G846G2308

Jesus, the Man

5And furthermore, it is not angels who will control the future world we are talking about.G1063G32G5293G3756G5293G3625G3195G4012G3739G29806For in one place the Scriptures say, "What are mere mortals that you should think about them, or a son of manc that you should care for him?G1161G5100G4225G1263G3004G5101G2076G444G3754G3403G846G2228G5207G444G3754G1980G8467Yet you made them only a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honorc.G1642G846G1024G5100G1642G3844G32G4737G846G1391G2532G5092G2532G2525G846G1909G2041G4675G54958You gave them authority over all things."c Now when it says "all things," it means nothing is left out. But we have not yet seen all things put under their authority.G5293G3956G5293G5270G846G4228G1063G1722G5293G3956G5293G846G863G3762G506G846G1161G3568G3708G3768G3956G5293G8469What we do see is Jesus, who was given a position "a little lower than the angels"; and because he suffered death for us, he is now "crowned with glory and honor." Yes, by God's grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone.G1161G991G2424G3588G1642G1024G5100G1642G3844G32G1223G3804G2288G4737G1391G2532G5092G3704G1089G5485G2316G1089G2288G5228G395610God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation.G1063G4241G846G1223G3739G3956G2532G1223G3739G3956G71G4183G5207G1519G1391G5048G747G846G4991G5048G1223G380411So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sistersc.G1063G5037G37G2532G37G3956G1537G1520G1223G3739G156G1870G3756G1870G2564G846G8012For he said to God, "I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people."cG3004G518G4675G3686G3450G80G1722G3319G1577G5214G457113He also said, "I will put my trust in him," that is, "I and the children God has given me."cG2532G3825G1473G2071G3982G1909G846G2532G3825G2400G1473G2532G3813G3739G2316G1325G342714Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who hadc the power of death.G1893G3767G3813G2841G4561G2532G129G3348G2532G846G3898G3348G846G2443G1223G2288G2673G2192G2904G2288G5123G122815Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.G2532G525G5128G3745G1223G5401G2288G2258G3956G2198G1777G139716We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham.G1063G1222G1949G3756G1949G32G235G1949G4690G1117Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sistersc, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.G3606G2596G3956G3784G3666G80G2443G1096G1655G2532G4103G749G4314G2316G1519G2433G266G299218Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.G1063G1722G3739G3958G846G3958G3985G1410G997G3985
