How to Use PT Bible API Feature to look up Scriptures on Your Website
What is PT BIble API
If you maintain a blog or a website and have Scriptures in them, PT Bible API can help you and your customers/viewers to look up passages quickly in the version of their choosing. On the verse below, place your mouse over it, or click on it on your mobile phone:
You will recognize that the verse popped up on the version that you use at Prayer Tents. Try setting multiple versions, it will show multiple versions as well.
How do I set it up?
Implementing it is easy. First, you need to obtain your PT Bible API key. Every registered user is given a specific key. Obtain yours by logging in and clicking on 'update your profile' on the menu on the right. Now that you have the key, you just need to copy the short code below into your website and put in your api key. You can ideally put it right before closing the body tag, or place it on a footer file.
Now, reference Scriptures in your text like this:
Which shows, Romans 15:4
or Prayer Tents shorthand, like this (abbreviate name of book, remove spaces, use dot(.) as the verse separator):
Which shows, Ephesians 3:20
or multiple verses by separating them with comma (,) and hyphen (-) like this:
<a href="javascript:ptbref('Eph3.14,19,20')" onMouseOver="ptbref('Eph3.14,19,20')">Ephesians 3:14,19,20</a>
Which shows, Ephesians 3:14-21 and Ephesians 3:14,19,20
In the syntax above, you can choose to remove the onMouseOver if you want to require users to click on the link. Mouseovers are used by desktop users of your website since mobile users will have to click anyway.
Setting up the version(s) of the Scriptures
The version displayed will be either the Prayer Tents default New Living Translation version, or whatever the user has been using at Prayer Tents on their device.
If you wish to specify specific version(s), you can do so by entering numeric value of the version(s) you wish to use. The list of version numbers are provided below. You can enter up to three following your Scripture reference.
Which shows, Ephesians 3:20 in NLT, 쉬운 성경, and in Simplified Chinese.
Simplifying your code work
Don't want to spend time typing up href tags for each verse you reference? Prayer Tents has developed a tool just for you: Bible Verse Replacer Tool. Simply by copy-pasting your text for your website or blog, it will automatically convert Scriptures to the format described above.
