(Gk. Rhoúphos; Lat. Rufus)

1. The son of Simon the Cyrene and brother of Alexander (Mark 15:21). The reference suggests that he was well known to the readers of Mark.

2. One whom Paul greets, along with his mother, in Rom. 16:13. He is called “chosen in the Lord.” If Mark’s Gospel was written in Rome, he may be the same as 1 above.
