IR-NAHASH

(Heb. ʿîr nāḥāš)

The son of Tehinnah, listed among the descendants of Judah (1 Chr. 4:12). However, Heb. ʿîr means “city” and a cognate of nāḥāš is the word for copper, thus possibly “Copper City.” 1 Chr. 4:12 may then indicate that Tehinnah founded Ir-nahash, just as v. 4 mentions Ephrathah as the father of Bethlehem. If Ir-nahash was a city, its location is unknown.
