ANTIPAS

(Gk. Antipás)

1. Herod Antipas, son of Herod the Great and Malthace. He was the tetrarch of Galilee who had John the Baptist imprisoned and beheaded (Matt. 14:1-11 = Mark 6:14-28) and who mocked Jesus at his trial (Luke 23:7-11).

2. A Christian at Pergamum who was martyred on account of his faith (Rev. 2:12).
