LAHMAM

(Heb. laḥmām)

A town in the Shephelah, or lowland, of Judah and part of that tribe’s inheritance (Josh. 15:40). The MT reads Heb. laḥmās, but most other manuscripts read lahmām, suggesting scribal error resulting from the very similar Hebrew letters mem and samek. While the location of the site is uncertain, it is in the same district as Lachish. Khirbet el-Laḥm (140108), 4.5 km. (3 mi.) S of Beit Jibrîn/Beth Guvrin (140113), is a possible candidate.
