Greek translation of Heb. }$,addôn. The word, meaning “destroyer,” occurs only once in the NT and refers to the “angel of the bottomless pit” (Rev. 9:11). The LXX translates the Hebrew term into Greek as apṓleia. In Greek literature the god of destruction and pestilence is often connected with this word.
